Hey, My name is Jossi Wells. I’m
17 years old and have lived in Wanaka all my life. I am
a professional Freeskier and spend my life travelling all
over the world for competitions. I am based in Wanaka for
the Southern Hemisphere winter and Utah/Colorado for the
Northern Hemisphere. When I’m not skiing I am doing
my schooling by correspondence or skateboarding. Proactive
gym plays a major roll in my pre-season training to get
fit and strong. It is a great facility with friendly people
and I am happy to be a part of the team. Thanks guys.

Introducing… Amy Sheehan: I am 20years
young and a member of the New Zealand Freeski team.
As a youngster I was brought up as a little surf rat in
Byron Bay on the East Coast of Australia.
At the age of ten we packed everything up, swapped our surfboards
for skis, destined for the ski slopes in Wanaka.
Ten years on and I am very proud to call New Zealand home
as it has given me opportunities I could not find any where
else in the world.
Skiing for me began on the beginner's slope at Cardrona,
which then quickly progressed into the Wanaka Race Academy
where I was happy gaining new skills for a few years. Before
I was introduced to the world of "twin tips" and
"backwards skiing" it was not cool to go through
the halfpipe – we liked our skis to stay on the ground.
Racing served a great purpose for building a strong foundation
for my skiing but it was now time to move on...
Five years down the track (since I first tried out a pair
of twin tips) and a lot has changed for both myself and
for freestyle sports …it's popularity among young
people looking for MORE has seen the creation of the Snow
Park and other mountains, designed purely to cater for the
many skiers and snowboarders looking for that amazing rush
you get when stomping a trick over a 60ft kicker or being
totally out of breath after boosting up and down the walls
of the superpipe .
This incredible spectator sport, has become something I
feel very passionate about. Freeskiing has taken me overseas
to see more of the world and compete against it's best.
As well as competing for my country I also coach groms up
the snow park – I love sharing my passions with these
kids and it's so great to know you are part of what the
future for NZ Freeski may hold.
What keeps this sport alive and what fuels my hunger to
achieve is that: No matter how amazing the trick is or how
impressive the skier, there is always some way you can improve
or better yourself… I am a firm believer that if you
put in the hard work both on and off the snow you will achieve
great results.
Pro-active is a great place for me to train off the snow.
It's facilities cater for anything I am needing to work
on, whether it be balance work, strength, trick specific
or just general fitness, I always know that I will achieve
what I am aiming at.
Thanks guys for your support
Amy

Presenting the man we all know and love...
Lyndon Sheehan!
This talented young man moved to Wanaka at the age of seven
and fell in love with skiing as soon as he set foot on snow.
Eleven years on and Lyndon, still chasing the snow, has been
able to create a career out of this love.
As a member of the NZ Freeski Team, his competitions have
taken him all around the world.
The amazing opportunities Lyndon has undertaken whilst overseas
are unlike many most kids his age have experienced, but he
still loves coming home to ski at the Snow Park and to train
at Proactive. "As an athlete I know I need any
advantage I can get to boost my physical performances on the
snow. Proactive facilitates my needs to build and maintain
my strength and fitness."
Cheers, Lyndon Sheehan |
